Jakarta [Indonesia], May 26: Indonesian police said on Thursday that its anti-terror squad arrested two suspected terrorists in the city of Malang in East Java province.
National Police spokesperson Ahmad Ramadhan told a press conference that a suspect, believed to be affiliated with a terror network of the banned Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) group, was apprehended on Tuesday.
Police arrested another suspect linked to the homegrown extremist group JamaahAnsharutDaulah (JAD) on Wednesday, Ramadhan said.
The spokesman said the anti-terror squad seized evidence during the raid.
The JAD is responsible for a string of attacks in the archipelagic country, including a suicide bombing at a cathedral in Makassar city on Sulawesi Island in 2021 and suicide bombings at churches in East Java in 2018, which killed a dozen people. The group was declared an illegal organization in 2018.
The JI was behind the deadly 2002 Bali bombings, which killed more than 200 people on the holiday island.
