Armenia and Azerbaijan make efforts for peace talks

May 01, 2023

Baku [Azerbaijan], May 1: Azerbaijan on April 23 established a new checkpoint in the Lachin corridor - the only road connecting Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a move that Armenia considers a violation of the ceasefire in 2020. By April 29, the Ministry of Defense Armenia said one of its soldiers near the village of Tegh (Syunik province, Armenia) was wounded by bullets from Azerbaijani forces.
Despite years of efforts at reconciliation, Armenia and Azerbaijan have yet to reach a peace agreement and resolve outstanding issues such as border demarcation and prisoner release. Conflict once again flared up in 2020, and Russia sent peacekeepers to intervene.
