Czech, Slovakian presidents want Ukraine in EU & NATO

Apr 30, 2023

Kyiv [Ukraine], April 30: The Czech Republic and Slovakia presidents, on a joint visit to Kyiv, have signalled support for Ukraine's accession aspirations to the European Union and NATO. "When it comes to Ukraine's membership both in the EU and NATO, the question for us isn't if, but when," new Czech President Petr Pavel wrote on Facebook following a meeting with Ukrainian President VolodymyrZelensky on Friday.
His Slovakian counterpart Zuzana Caputova said: "It's an honour to express our support to you, President Zelensky." Pavel and Caputova also published photos of the meeting in separate Facebook posts. Besides Kyiv, the two leaders also travelled to the suburb of Bucha, the scene of an alleged Russian massacre last year. Pavel told the Czech television station CT24 that he had no doubt that Russia was deliberately targeting civilian objects in Ukraine. "From the large number of attacks on civilian targets, nothing else can be concluded then that there is intent behind it."
The Czech Republic and Slovakia, which formed a common state until 30 years ago, have been among Ukraine's most committed political and military supporters since the Russian invasion began.
