Apr 26, 2023

Madrid [Spain], April 26: Spain's former king Juan Carlos has left the capital of the Basque Country, Vitoria-Gasteiz, on a private jet after his 6-day visit to Spain. His destination was not made official but was assumed to be his exile in Abu Dhabi, RTVE reported. An online flight tracker first showed his plane headed northeast over southern France and then east over northern Italy. The 85-year-old arrived on Sunday evening and went to a dental clinic. His plan to join a regatta with his boat off the coast of Sanxenxo was called off due to bad weather. Carlos, father to King Felipe VI, was Spain's head for almost 4 decades until his abdication in June 2014. He arrived in Galicia last Wednesday for his first visit home since May last year. In Sanxenxo, he stayed with a close friend; in contrast to last year, he did not make a statement. He had no plans to meet Felipe, his wife Sofía or other royals.(DPA)
