Seoul [South Korea], June 1: Kim made the statement on the day after KCNA reported that the spy satellite launch on the morning of May 31 had failed. According to KCNA, the new missile, named "Chollima-1", carrying the military reconnaissance satellite "Malligyong-1", fell into the sea due to the rocket booster system malfunctioning in the second separation stage.
KCNA also released images today of what it said was a new Chollima-1 missile being launched with fire and smoke from a coastal launch pad, according to Reuters.
North Korea's launch of a spy satellite appears to have been rushed and could take at least several weeks to fix the missile problem, a South Korean lawmaker said on Wednesday, citing South Korea's intelligence agency. The North Korean launch was criticized by South Korea, Japan and the United States.
In her statement, Kim called criticism of Sunday's satellite launch "self-contradictory" because the US and other countries had launched "thousands of satellites".
Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, announced that the country's military spy satellite will soon enter orbit and Pyongyang will step up military surveillance.
"We are ready to do whatever we can to protect our sovereign rights and interests," Kim said in a statement published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Monday, according to Reuters.
In another statement carried by KCNA, North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Son-gyong criticized US-led exercises in the region, including a naval exercise against nuclear proliferation. multinational, according to Reuters.
