Malaysia's wholesale, retail trade sales value climbs 14.7 pct in February

Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia], April 12: Malaysia's wholesale and retail trade monthly sales value grew 14.7 percent to 134.3 billion ringgit (30.39 billion U.S. dollars) in February, official data showed Tuesday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the increase was attributed to the retail trade sub-sector, which surpassed the other sub-sectors with an increase of 19.2 percent to register 58.2 billion ringgit.
Motor vehicles also expanded 36.1 percent to 16.9 billion ringgit.
Within the same period, wholesale trade rose 5.9 percent to 59.1 billion ringgit.
However, for month-on-month comparison, sales value of wholesale and retail trade declined 0.6 percent, dragged down by wholesale trade and retail trade which decreased by 2 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively. (1 ringgit equals 0.23 U.S. dollars)
