Ms. Harris has continued to reap achievements.

Aug 06, 2024

Washington [US], August 6: According to the results of the poll released by CBS News/YouGov on August 4, Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 1 point nationwide, with a rate of 50% to 49%. This is a much better number for the Democrats than when US President Joe Biden was still in the race. In the swing states that are decisive in the US presidential elections, Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump are currently tied. The above poll was conducted from July 30 to August 2 with 3,100 registered voters, with a margin of error of 2.1%.
In the same poll, voters still supported Trump on the economy, with 45% to 25%, respectively. However, when it came to confidence in the candidates, only 51% of respondents said Trump was mentally fit to be president, compared to 64% for Harris.
In addition to a tight race in the polls, Vice President Harris has quickly eroded Trump's fundraising lead, entering August with $377 million in cash from new donors and Democrats, $50 million more than Trump's campaign's $327 million.
Launch new campaign
Harris' presidential campaign announced on August 4 that it would launch a "Republicans for Harris" program aimed at attracting swing Republican voters. The program will include online ads, phone calls, events and other themed activities in Arizona, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The events will begin this week and focus on voters who previously supported former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, ABC News reported.
The program was quickly supported by more than 20 Republicans, including former Trump White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, Republican Governor of Massachusetts Bill Weld, and former National Security Advisor to former US Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump seeks to strike back
While Harris continues to maintain her campaign momentum, former President Trump is struggling to adjust to running against a completely new candidate. Trump's campaign has come under intense scrutiny and criticism for his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, who in 2021 criticized Vice President Harris and other Democrats as "a bunch of cat-loving, childless old maids who are miserable with their lives." In an interview with Fox News on August 4, Sen. JD Vance responded to the criticism: "The ridicule doesn't bother me. What bothers me is what Kamala Harris has done to this country over the last three and a half years."
Calls for a Republican campaign overhaul are growing, according to CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter. The Trump campaign is now trying to shift the conversation around Senator Vance through a campaign fundraiser and media interviews.
At the same time, Mr. Trump also faces the risk of backstabbing himself by attacking Ms. Harris's race. As a result, the former president on August 4th shifted the blame for Biden and Ms. Harris's stock market plunge. Currently, Mr. Trump's campaign team is calling for a shift away from statements on race issues, while focusing on attacking his Democratic opponent on illegal immigration, inflation, and cases Ms. Harris handled as a prosecutor.
