Warsaw [Poland], March 30: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned of the real threat of a conflict in Europe and said that the continent has entered a pre-war period for the first time since World War 2.
" War is no longer a concept from the past. It is real and it started 2 years ago. The most worrying thing right now is that almost every scenario can happen. We have never seen it. situation like this since 1945," AFP quoted Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk as saying in an interview with European media outlet LENA on March 29, referring to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine that broke out in February 2022.
"I know it sounds surprising, especially to the younger generation, but we have to get used to the fact that a new period has begun: the pre-war period . I'm not exaggerating. It has become clearer every day," the leader said.
The prime minister said that the West needs to do everything to provide necessary weapons and equipment to Ukraine , Poland's neighbor that is in a more than 2-year conflict with Russia.
"The next two years will decide everything," Prime Minister Tusk said and warned that if Ukraine loses, no one in Europe can feel safe.
On the other hand, Mr. Tusk - former President of the European Council - called for improving Europe's relationship with the US, regardless of who wins the US presidential election next November. However, he also believes that the European Union (EU) should be more independent and autonomous in defense issues. "We will be a more attractive partner for the US if we are more self-sufficient in defense," Mr. Tusk said.
