Pope due to leave hospital on Friday after recovering from surgery

Rome [Italy], June 16: Pope Francis is expected to be able to leave hospital on Friday nine days after having abdominal surgery, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said. The Pope is recovering as expected and none of the tests he has had have shown any abnormalities, Bruni added on Thursday.
The Pope earlier thanked the team of surgeons in Rome's Gemelli Hospital who operated on him. The Pope had surgery last week due to an impending intestinal obstruction. He was given a general anaesthetic and tolerated this well, the doctors said, adding that the operation was without complications.
The Vatican also published three photos showing the head of the Catholic Church in the hospital where he underwent the operation.Francis visited the departments of paediatric oncology and paediatric neurosurgery, the Vatican said. (DPA)
