Moscow [Russia]/ Kyiv [Ukraine], September 2: Massive Ukrainian drone attacks have hit a refinery in Moscow and two power plants, according to Russian reports on Sunday.
A fire broke out at the Kapotnya refinery located in a south-east district of Moscow, but the fire brigade was able to contain it after some time, according to the state news agency TASS.
Attacks on a power plant on the southern outskirts of Moscow and on a power plant in the Tver region around 100 kilometres north-east of the metropolis were officially confirmed. Russian media published unconfirmed videos online suggesting that these plants were also on fire. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported on Telegram that debris from drones fell on the outskirts of Moscow.
The Defence Ministry in Moscow announced that 158 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted at night over 15 different Russian regions.
Meanwhile, Russian air strikes have injured at least 41 people in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, officials have said.
Regional head Oleh Syniehubov said five children were among those wounded and he accused Moscow of "aiming exclusively at civilian infrastructure" in the city.
Among the buildings damaged are a supermarket and a sports complex in areas residents go to every day, he added.
"Russia is once again terrorizing Kharkiv, striking civilian infrastructure and the city itself," President Volodymyr Zelensky said in the wake of the attacks.
Zelensky repeated his calls for Western allies to "give Ukraine everything it needs to defend itself".
