Russia shoots down Ukrainian UAV heading towards Moscow

Moscow [Russia], August 21: Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack on Moscow and the provinces of Bryansk, Tula and Rostov, according to Russian officials.
Reuters quoted Russian officials as saying that Ukraine launched a large-scale attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on August 21, including three UAVs that were shot down by Russian air defense forces in an area 38 km south of the Kremlin .
The drones, which were heading towards Moscow , were shot down in the city of Podolsk (Moscow region), according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. "Preliminary data shows that there were no damages or casualties in the area where the debris fell," he said.
Another 15 UAVs hit Bryansk Oblast, where Governor Alexander Bogomaz said there were no casualties or damage. RIA reported that two other UAVs were downed in Tula Oblast, which borders Moscow Oblast .
In Russia's southwestern Rostov region, Governor Vasily Golubev said air defenses shot down a Ukrainian missile and there were no casualties in the area. It was not clear how many missiles and drones Ukraine used in the attacks. Ukraine has not commented on the matter.
In another development, the Ukrainian military said Russia launched a fierce attack on August 20 at the Toretsk and Pokrovsk fronts in Donetsk province .
According to the Ukrainian military, the Pokrovsk front is where Russia's main offensive is concentrated and Ukrainian forces repelled 49 Russian attacks on August 20, in addition to 13 other clashes still ongoing.
Overall, Ukrainian military commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russia has used more than 9,600 missiles and 14,000 UAVs in attacks in Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
Ukrainian air defense forces have destroyed more than 2,400 missiles and 9,200 UAVs, The Kyiv Independent quoted him as saying at a meeting with local officials.
He pointed out the different types of missiles used by Russian forces, including Kalibr, Dagger and S-300/S-400 missiles.
Ukraine was primarily targeted with S-300/S-400 missiles, with a total of 3,008 strikes. The second most frequently used weapon was the Kh-555/Kh-101 cruise missile, with 1,846 strikes recorded, according to Syrskyi.
