Tokyo (Japan) June 5: Sarah Lewis, a former secretary-general of the International Ski Federation (FIS), has announced that she will be focusing on a variety of global projects in sport after her defeat in the FIS presidential election on Friday.
Johan Eliasch, the CEO of international sports giant Head, won the election in the virtual 52nd International Ski Congress.
The Swedish billionaire, put forward by GB Snowsport, won in the first round by a simple majority with 65 votes, giving him 54 percent of the votes to help him succeed Gian-Franco Kasper, who has stepped down after 23 years as FIS president.
Britain's Lewis, who served as secretary-general of FIS from 2000 to last October, said, "I congratulate the newly elected FIS president Johan Eliasch and Council Members in this new era of global sport."
"I am also taking this opportunity to thank the national associations and the global snow sport community for our engaging collaboration over the years, working with dedication to the sport and organization."
"I have made it my mission to understand our global landscape, and now as I pursue several exciting projects in global sport, I will continue to do just this."
"I will be remaining at the forefront of demonstrating the importance of innovations and partnerships in sport, and how these impact positively on society, along with promoting women in leadership positions," she said.
Friday's congress also elected the FIS's 16-member council, with Zheng Liangcheng elected as the only Chinese representative.
