Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services unveils new facilities for 2024-2025 academic year

Sharjah [UAE], August 23: Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) is set to welcome students with disabilities to its new facilities in Al Badeea, Al Barashi, for the 2024-2025 academic year.
This marks the completion of the first phase of a project supported by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi and aligned with the initiatives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The first phase of the project includes the General Administration, Al Wafa School for Capacity Development "Yarmouk and Ramla," Severe Disabilities Centre "evening period," and the Sharjah Autism Centre.
The design emphasises innovative, environmentally friendly approaches, adhering to global best practices to create an inclusive and accessible environment.
Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, SCHS Chairperson, praised the collaborative efforts and highlighted the project as a reflection of Sheikh Sultan's visionary guidance. The first phase demonstrates the city's commitment to high-quality services and strong partnerships. The city is recognised as a leader in supporting people with disabilities, with plans for a future comprehensive complex to further this mission.
Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, SCHS Director-General, noted that the first phase spans 100,000 square metres of a 575,000-square-metre plot donated by the Ruler of Sharjah.
The project addresses growing demand and incorporates future needs, aligning with international best practices in education and rehabilitation. The second phase will add 14 buildings, including key facilities like a sports complex, a mosque, and a treatment center.
The total cost for construction and operational work in the first phase is approximately AED 173 million. The UAE President contributed AED 80 million, the Bank of Sharjah provided AED 30 million, and the city covered around AED 63 million for construction, consulting, and furnishing the buildings.
The new project features several key facilities, including an administration building and a library designed for students and researchers, offering an environment with state-of-the-art inclusive and accessible resources and technologies.
It also encompasses educational buildings for the Sharjah Autism Centre and Al Wafa School for Capacity Development, which provide specialised educational and rehabilitation services for students with intellectual disabilities.
Additionally, the complex includes classrooms, life skills development rooms, treatment rooms, and open areas for play and outdoor activities catering to all ages and community groups.
