Colombo [Sri Lanka], April 22: Steps have been taken to enhance security at all Muslim mosques in Sri Lanka that will have ceremonies for the Eid al-Fitr festival, police said on Friday.
Senior police officials were asked to carry out daytime and night patrols, police spokesman NihalThalduwa told journalists.
He added that a few days ago they increased security at Akurana, a predominantly Muslim area in central Sri Lanka, following a tip-off on a possible bomb attack. However, police found no evidence of such an attack.
Sri Lankan security forces have increased security at religious establishments during all major religious festivals following the Easter Sunday attacks in April 2019.
