Feb 25, 2024

Madrid [Spain], February 25: Ten people are now known to have died in the fire than engulfed a residential complex in the Spanish Mediterranean city of Valencia two days ago.
The body of the last person still missing was found in the burnt-out building on Saturday, according to the representative of the central government in the autonomous community of Valencia, Pilar Bernabe.
A further 15 people were injured, but most of them have already been discharged from hospital. Bernabe said that there are currently no other missing persons.
Initially authorities had reported four dead, then five and then 10 but revised that figure down to nine. However the totals were expected to change as the search for missing people continued.
The modern residential complex contained 138 flats, home to around 450 residents, according to a report by state broadcaster RTVE. The newspaper La Vanguardia gave the figure of 143 residential units.
The fire broke out late on Thursday afternoon and quickly engulfed the entire structure, which consisted of two wings of different heights. According to Spanish media reports, the flames spread quickly due to the combustible nature of parts of the façade insulation. Strong winds also fanned the flames.
