The EU condemns Russia's criminal offenses against the prosecutors and judges of the International Criminal Court

Brussels [Belgium], May 23: The European Union announced this evening that it condemns the criminal proceedings initiated by the Russian authorities against the prosecutor and three judges of the International Criminal Court.
"Every action by Russia against the mandate of the ICC and attempts to intimidate those involved in the ICC's investigation of international crimes committed in Ukraine are politically motivated, unfounded, unjustified and unacceptable. They are another manifestation of the Kremlin's disrespect for international rules and international law," it said. is the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, JosepBorrell.
According to him, the Union "once again gives its full support to the ICC as an independent and impartial judicial institution trusted by more than 120 countries from all regions of the world, to ensure accountability for the most serious crimes".
"We firmly stand by this court and remain committed to the defense of its staff from any external interference calculated to obstruct justice and undermine the international system of criminal justice protection".
Borrell stated that the Union calls on "all states to defend the principles and values incorporated in the Rome Statute and to be united against impunity".
