Washington [US], October 25: Former US President Donald Trump has likened the United States to the 'trash can of the world ' when criticizing the current administration's border policy.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Tempe, Arizona on October 24, former President Donald Trump specifically emphasized the illegal immigration situation taking place at the southern border of the United States.
"We are the dumping ground. We are the trash can of the world. That's what happened to us," CNN quoted Mr. Trump.
"This is the first time I've said that. Every time I say what they've done to our country, I get angrier and angrier. The first time I said trash but that's a very accurate description," Trump continued .
According to CNN, the Republican presidential candidate is trying to accuse Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, of illegal immigration in the US. In the past, Mr. Trump has described undocumented immigrants as murderers, criminals, and dangerous people.
Trump threatens to "fire" prosecutor
In an interview also on October 24, Mr. Trump declared that he would "fire" special prosecutor Jack Smith within 2 seconds of being re-elected, according to CNN.
Mr Smith is the criminal investigator for Mr Trump. When asked by host Hugh Hewitt whether he would "pardon himself" or "fire Jack Smith", Mr Trump replied: "Oh, that's easy. I'd fire him in two seconds."
In another interview later, Mr Trump said Mr Smith "should be considered mentally deranged and should be thrown out of the country", according to The Hill.
Mr. Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November 2022 to run two investigations into Mr. Trump, including efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and retaining classified documents after leaving office.
The classified documents case was dismissed by a federal judge, but Smith is appealing the decision. Meanwhile, after the US Supreme Court ruled on presidential immunity, Smith amended the indictment in the election overturning case, in which Trump is charged with four crimes.
