Turkish Intelligence Kills ISIS Leader

Ankara [Turkey], May 1: AFP news agency on May 1 quoted Turkish President RecepTayyip Erdogan as saying that the leader of the Islamic State group (IS) in Syria had been killed in an operation conducted by Ankara's MIT intelligence agency.
"The suspected leader of IS, Abu Hussein al-Qurashi, was neutralized during the operation carried out yesterday (April 30) in Syria by MIT," Erdogan announced on television.
IS information about the death of its predecessor Abu Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi on November 30, 2022 and his replacement is Abu Hussein al-Qurashi.
On April 30, Turkish intelligence agencies and the Turkish-backed local military police cordoned off an area in the town of Jindires in the northwestern Syrian region of Afrin.
Some residents said an operation had been launched against an abandoned farm used as an Islamic school.
Turkey has deployed troops to northern Syria since 2020 and controls the entire region with the help of several groups in Syria.
The United States conducted a helicopter operation in Syria in mid-April, claiming that IS intended to carry out attacks in Europe and the Middle East.
US Central Command said it had killed an IS leader during that operation, and identified him as Abd-al Hadi Mahmud al-Haji Ali. IS fighters are suspected of killing at least 41 people in Syria on April 16.
In the first week of April, US forces said they had killed a leader of the IS group responsible for planning attacks in Europe and identified him as Khalid Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri.
